Even if you don’t attend a church on a regular basis, if you still find old churches interesting, or at least wouldn’t want to see them disappear, then you can make a difference.
There’s just something about buildings which have stood in some cases for hundreds of years. Take this chance to visit them and learn a little history of the buildings.
So, make a difference, here’s how.
On September 12th the Nottinghamshire Historic Churches Trust are holding their annual major fundraiser; Ride and Stride. This is an opportunity, if you find old churches interesting, for you to help in preserving them as well as to enjoy a day out.
How? you ask. Request a sponsor form and get a few friends, work colleagues to sponsor you in visiting different churches.
Decide how you want to travel, walk, cycle, two or three of you in a car, it doesn’t matter. Look at a map and plan a route to visit a few churches; a list of churches taking part in postcode areas will be available, and off you go. An interesting and enjoyable few hours out where you also have the satisfaction of knowing you’re making a big difference.
All the money raised goes to the Historic Churches Trust who use it to make grants to local churches that need help. In addition, half of the money raised by sponsors comes back to the church of their choice.
